Thinking of Joining a Class?

Ok, that's great, but before you get in touch please read all the info below, it's important..

If you're interested in t'ai chi (taijiquan) and qigong and thinking about coming along to a class or two, here's a few tips and hints which I hope will help you...

Do your research...

No idea what tai chi is? Think you might need a mat? (Hint: you don't, it's not yoga). Use your "Google Fu" skills to check out some videos and web sites so you have an idea what it is. If you don't like the look or sound of it there's no point in coming along to a class, but if you do still fancy a go, at least you have an idea of what you'll be doing.

Here's a couple of links to get you started:
A little of our taiji set...
Qigong Exercise - Sink Qi To The Dantian

These links are geared towards what we do in our classes but there's a whole lot more info on different styles, health benefits, martial arts and meditative practices that you can find out about. Use Google and Youtube to find out what you're going to be doing and also...

you're probably going to be in over your head...

If you're coming to an already established class then you're going to be in over your head at first. The good news is 99% of people started that way including me. What you need is a genuine interest and a willingness to learn. That willingness also requires you to accept that you'll make many mistakes too. That's ok, it's expected, and no-one's judging you.

got previous experience?

I'm the only one that I know of teaching the specific systems I do in this area, so whereas you may find some movements familiar, it's going to be either a little, or a lot different, from what you've done before. It's best to start with a clean slate and start afresh, as when you're trying to learn something new, trying to relate it to the old stuff tends to hold you back. Trust me on that one, I've been there myself. Throw yourself into learning the new stuff feet first and you'll be surprised at just how quickly you can learn.

and finally...

Nothing on this page is meant to upset (hopefully!) anyone. I'd rather you know exactly what to expect before you decide to contact me and come along to a class. If you're serious about leanring taijiquan and qigong there's nothing I won't do to help you, but I really feel the above information is important for you as a potential student.
